In our apple story from the December vegetable patch, Apple has sneaked out of the storage shed and meets another very cheeky apple.

The Foodies bring you vegetable patch stories for every month of the year, and all the characters, scenery and weather are in season that month.

December’s story features apples, which are no longer on trees but are still in season in the UK in storage. Children can enjoy Apple’s fun adventure and then learn all about how apples grow, go and find some in the shops (or their own garden store!) and cook a lovely apple recipe from the back of the book.

This story is all about reflections and communicating and the free downloads build on those themes.

December’s Book of the Month. Apple is very confused by the other naughty apple! The Foodies Books bring you stories from the veggie patch for each month of the year, and all the characters, scenery and weather are in season that month.

It was a crisp and chilly December day in the garden. Apple sneaked out of the fruit storage shed to get a bit of exercise…

In this story, Apple happens upon a pocket mirror, but doesn’t know what it is. She sees another Apple inside who is talking and waving its hands at her but she can’t hear it, and as she gets grumpier, so does the other apple.

The story lends itself to discussions of mirrors and reflections.  Our free downloadable activities explore the theme of reflections in more depth, with activities about finding reflective surfaces, seeing the difference between reflection and symmetry, and making a reflective self portrait.
