In our tomato story from the July vegetable patch, Tomato is racing around causing havoc, and refusing to apologise. He learns why apologies can be helpful for everyone.

The Foodies bring you vegetable patch stories for every month of the year, and all the characters, scenery and weather are in season that month.

July’s story features tomatoes, which are not only in the shops but also abundant everywhere in veggie patches and allotments in the UK. Children can enjoy Tomato’s fun adventure and then learn all about how tomatoes grow, go and find some in the shops (or pick them from a plant on the windowsill!) and cook a lovely tomato recipe from the back of the book.

This story is all how it’s good to apologise when we have done something wrong, and that being kind and having good manners can make people feel better, and the free downloads build on that theme.

In this story, Tomato is so full of energy that when he upsets some people and messes up their games, he doesn’t even want to stay and apologise. This makes everyone really cross at him.

The story lends itself to discussions of kindness and politeness, and about saying sorry when we mess up.     I found this book super entertaining with strong morals. It is always important to say sorry! Tomato can be very funny. Amazing book!
