Parsnip Meets A Snowman – The Foodies Veggie Patch Parsnip Story for January

£2.99

In our parsnip story from the January vegetable patch, Parsnip is very scared when he meets a snowman, but then gets excited to build one of his own.

The Foodies bring you vegetable patch stories for every month of the year, and all the characters, scenery and weather are in season that month.

January’s story features parsnips, which are not only in the shops but still standing in the ground in veggie patches and allotments in the UK. Children can enjoy Parsnip’s fun adventure and then learn all about how parsnips grow, go and find some in the shops (or dig some up from the garden!) and cook a lovely parsnip recipe from the back of the book.

This story is all about ice, snow and making a snowman and the free downloads build on that theme.

January’s Book of the Month. Parsnip meets a scary monster! The Foodies Books bring you stories from the veggie patch for each month of the year, and all the characters, scenery and weather are in season that month.

It was a cold and wintry January day in the garden. Parsnip woke up to find that the whole garden was covered in a blanket of snow…

In this story, Parsnip happens upon a snowman, but doesn’t know what it is and is very scared. He finds out all about making snowmen and even makes one of his own.

The story lends itself to discussions of snow and ice, making snow sculptures and playing in the snow. Our free downloadable activities explore the theme of snow and ice in more depth, with games about how melting works, snowmen sandwiches and creating pretty snowflakes.

My favourite of the 12, maybe because January is my birthday or parsnips are my favourite veg, but this is the one I always read with the kids when it was my turn to choose. Beautifully illustrated and written, these books are fun and have been a firm favourite.
