August’s Book of the Month. Courgette can’t stop measuring himself! The Foodies Books bring you stories from the veggie patch for each month of the year, and all the characters, scenery and weather are in season that month.
It was a baking hot August day in the garden. Some plants were enjoying the sunshine and others were fanning themselves in the shade.
In this story, Courgette doesn’t like being small and wants to be big and grown up. He asks for advice on how plants can grow more quickly and measures himself constantly to see if he is being successful.
The story lends itself to discussions of growing up as well as measurements. Our free downloadable activities explore the theme of measuring in more depth, with games for children to measure themselves, measure other things using made-up units, and compare sizes of things to learn about bigger and smaller than.
