In our strawberry story from the June vegetable patch, Strawberry is excited to celebrate her birthday and is really disappointed that all her friends seem to have forgotten it.

The Foodies bring you vegetable patch stories for every month of the year, and all the characters, scenery and weather are in season that month.

June’s story features strawberries, which are not only in the shops but also abundant everywhere in veggie patches and allotments in the UK. Children can enjoy Strawberry’s fun adventure and then learn all about how strawberries grow, go and find some in the shops (or pick them from a plant on the windowsill!) and cook a lovely strawberry recipe from the back of the book.

This story is all celebrating birthdays and surprise parties and the free downloads build on that theme.

In this story, it’s Strawberry’s two week birthday and she wants to celebrate with her friends. But everyone seems to have forgotten it’s her special day and none of them have time to spend with her.

The story lends itself to discussions of birthdays and celebrations.  Our free downloadable activities explore the theme of snow and ice in more depth, with activities to see how birthdays are spread throughout the year,  how they are celebrated around the world and even a teddy bear’s birthday party.
